Going back to my childhood, I have always been interested in feminism, and that has only grown stronger as an adult. I am always eager to talk about it and explain when someone does not understand issues related to inequality. To me, feminism is not just about women's rights, it is about rights between all genders, and even between social classes. I collaborate with feminist organizations in my country and soon will become involved with the organization “Save a Girl, Save a Woman,” in its fight against female mutilation in Africa.
Last year I participated in the OEA CyberWomen challenge in my country of Uruguay, and with my team we obtained first place in the competition. It was a very enriching experience. Working hand-in-hand with cybersecurity women from other companies gave me great satisfaction, knowing that the number of women in the field is growing year by year.
Improving gender equality and representation in the IT sector will in turn lead to better results for organizations. As a society, I believe the most important thing we need to improve gender equality is empathy. A society without empathy is doomed to failure.
Another passion that defines me: I love food! Honestly, I really love it. I can be having the worst day and be tired and stressed, but with a good plate of food (even something simple like pizza or ice cream), happiness returns to my body. I am a vegetarian (in the process of being vegan), and I do not wear clothes that are of animal origin (leather, fur and others). I also like to support animal shelters and help find families that can take in a homeless dog.
In my work life, I am an information security professional currently working in the financial sector. I have experience in information security management practices, security regulation, IT risk analysis, indicator management, logical access control management, project release processes and leadership. And I am always looking to grow. I recently became one of the early-adopters of ISACA’s new CDPSE certification. Data privacy, information security, and the laws and regulations that regulate it are topics that have interested me since I started working in the field in 2011, and I want to become an even stronger authority on data privacy and information security in the coming years. That’s because I’m somebody who loves a challenge. Life is more interesting that way!
